I still remember the idea of making Caramel or Caramel Sauce scared me terribly. I think it was because someone I greatly looked up to had told me that homemade caramel was very difficult, complicated, and at times, even dangerous to make.

For many years, therefore, I tried my best to avoid making it, and then finally when I did gather enough guts to make it, the caramel sauce ended up like a mass of burnt sugar and filled my house with the smell of burnt sugar and my eyes with tears.

It took me another few years before I attempted making this again. This time I pushed away all my fears and voilà! I got a beautiful, thick caramel sauce.

And so here I am today, sharing with you the easiest caramel sauce recipe.

To make this caramel sauce with cream, you will need:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • ¼ cup of water
  • 1⁄3 cup of cream
  • 1 tbsp of butter
  • ¼ tsp of salt

Read these tips before you continue to the recipe:

  1. Use a thick bottomed pan.
  2. The pan should be deep enough.
  3. DO NOT STIR the sugar with spoon or spatula at all. If you must, just twirl the saucepan around.
  4. Once the colour of the sugar starts to change, keep the heat low and keep watching it like a hawk.

How to make it:

  • Add Sugar and Water to a Saucepan and boil.
  • Continue to boil till it turns golden. Do not stir.

  • Add cream and whisk vigorously.

  • Add in the butter and salt. Your end caramel sauce should look like this.

  • Pour in a container and use as you like.

Caramel Sauce

Ingredients

  • Add Sugar and Water to a Saucepan and boil till it turns golden.
  • Continue to boil till it turns golden. Do not stir.
  • Add cream and whisk vigorously.
  • Add in the butter and salt. Your end caramel sauce should look like this.
  • Pour in a container and use it as you like.
