Bechamel Sauce is a world favorite. It is also popularly known as White Sauce (or as White Pasta Sauce in India) and is a creamy white sauce.
This is a Classic traditional French Sauce, which has found its place in the world’s favorite sauces.
This recipe needs very simple ingredients and is pretty straightforward to make. And you will be surprised at how many variations or derivatives you can make to it.
In India, the most popular uses of this are Bechamel Sauce Pasta and Lasagne but I can tell you it has many more uses than that like moussaka, croquettes, pasta dishes, or as a base for other sauces. I will dedicate a whole new article to that I think.
Here is your very basic and simple Bechamel Sauce Recipe.
What you will need:

- 3 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp butter
- 750 ml of milk
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper powder
How to make it:
- Add butter to a saucepan and let it melt on low flame.

- Now, add the flour and continuously whisk to make sure that butter and flour mix well together, and the flour isn’t left uncooked. Cook till golden on a very low flame.
- Now add in the milk. Make sure milk is hot enough (if not boiled) so as to make sure there will be no lumps at the end. Continue to whisk as you slowly add the milk.

- Continue to whisk till it becomes thicker and creamier.

- Add in the seasonings such as salt, pepper. You can even add Nutmeg Powder, Garlic, Parsley, Oregano, Red Chilli Powder, etc. depending on what you are planning to make with this sauce.

I am going to post a separate video explaining its variations. Till then, you can make this sauce and use it in making Pasta while adding Italian Seasonings or add it to your Lasanga.
