Creamcheese Frosting

Cream Cheese Frosting is one of my favorite frostings mainly because I love its cheesy and slightly tart flavor and also its creamy texture. And just to mention that it is also very quick and simple to make.

It goes best with Carrot Cake, Red Velvet Cake or Cupcakes, Lemon, or any Citrus flavored cake. As for me, I love it with a rich Chocolate Cake as well!

In fact, try frosting a Vanilla Cake with this top it with loads of fresh berries. You will thank me I promise!

We start here with the basic Creamcheese Frosting recipe and of course, there is no end to its variations!

What You Will Need:

Creamcheese – 250 gms

Unsalted butter – 125 gms

Icing sugar (sifted) – 150 gms

Vanilla – 1 tsp

This gives you enough to fill and frost an 8 inch round or 7-inch square cake.

How To Make It:

Note: This frosting easily over whips and becomes grainy, so use everything only at room temperature and be careful while beating and whisking not to overbeat at any point.

Beat room temperature cream cheese till its smooth.

Beat room temperature butter and icing sugar in it till it is smooth.

Add in the Vanilla and sifted icing sugar and beat to mix taking care that you do not overbeat. Chill before using.

Now as I promised, let me introduce to you some variations for this basic cream cheese frosting.

Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting:

Sift about half a cup of unsweetened cocoa powder to the recipe after adding the sugar and mix thoroughly.

Espresso Cream Cheese Frosting:

Now that’s my girl!! Yeah I love this one too!! Just take care that you use a fine powder of coffee for this. To the quantities mentioned here, I like to add about 1 to 1.5 tbsp of coffee powder with the sugar. But you can totally use the quantity you like.

Hazelnut Cream Cheese Frosting:

Add half a cup of roughly powdered roasted hazelnuts in the end and just fold them in.

Nutella Cream Cheese Frosting:

Add about half to 3/4 cup of Nutella paste to this with the cream cheese.

So that’s my cream cheese frosting that’s super easy and quick to make!!  I would love to hear how you like your cream cheese frosting!!

So what are you waiting for? Grab your prettiest apron and a whisk, put on your favorite song, and start creating the magic!! Do share your experience of this post and recipe and your views and opinions! I would love to hear them!!

One doubt- all the ingredients to be at room temperature then what should be chilled to avoid curdling?

    • You only need to chill yourself and not any of the ingredients Khushnaaz!!! The only point to note is to use them at room temperature and take care not to get carried away while whipping. If you don’t trust yourself with the electric beater, it is perfectly alright to use a hand held whisk to whip and beat the ingredients as you would be in better control. You just need to chill the frosting once its ready before using it to frost as it tends to become a little too soft to handle. I hope that answers your doubt. If not, shoot again!!!

  5. That s something sounding really nice.. splly the frosting..Needs focussed whipping as brought out by u …maam . Fantastic n yummy it looks.

    • Yes Sudha, you can totally add colour to this frosting. Make sure you use gel colours like Wilton, Americolor or any other gel colours not Liquid (water based) colours.
