Coffee Walnut Cake

This is a classic Coffee Walnut Cake that is very popular in bakeries all over Europe. With a cup of hot tea or coffee, a slice of this cake is almost therapeutic. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself!

Here’s what you need:

  • 1.5 cups flour
  • 1 cup powdered brown sugar
  • 100 gm butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1.5-2 tbsp coffee granules
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ cup broken walnuts
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence (optional)
  • Whole Walnuts (to decorate)

How to make it:

  • Add the coffee in hot milk, mix it and keep it aside for 5 minutes to let the coffee be infused.
  • Add in the butter to a large bowl, beat it for a while, and then add the powdered sugar, and beat them together till they become light and creamy. Make sure the butter is at room temperature.
  • Now, add the eggs and again beat the mixture till it looks smooth. 
  • Sift in half of the flour and baking powder, mix it well and then add some of the coffee mixture.
  • Again sift rest of the baking powder and flour, mix it and add the coffee mixture.
  • Repeat the process till you get this beautiful golden, creamy consistency. 
  • Add in the broken walnuts and mix them in the batter.
  • Grease and line a baking tin. Pour in the mixture. Tap it a bit and we are ready to bake! 
  • Bake it at 180°C for about 35-40 Minutes. This beautiful golden cake shall come out. Let it cool down for a while after which you can take it out. 
  • After that, you can cut the dome, remove the parchment paper, and invert it and your coffee walnut tea cake is ready!
  • To add some finishing touches, I sifted some cocoa powder generously over the cake as well as decorated it with some whole walnuts. You can skip this step if you wish to.
  • And here, our very pretty coffee walnut cake is ready! Enjoy it as you like.
