You must have heard about Hummus. It is a kind of dip or a spread that we can eat with a lot of things. However, it is mostly eaten with Falafel or Pita Bread.

Hummus first originated in the Middle East and thus, is an important part of the regular food of countries like Lebanon, Iran, Israel, etc. It is indeed very nutritious as well as pretty easy to make, except for being so delicious.

Here’s what you need:

To make Hummus:

  • Tahini
  • 250 gms of soaked & boiled chickpeas or garbanzo beans (kabuli chane)
  • 6 to 8 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 5 to 6 tbsp of olive oil (more for garnishing)
  • Salt & Red Chilli Powder to taste

To make Tahini:

How to make it:
  • Soak the chickpeas for 6 to 8 hours.
  • Boil them till soft and completely drain them out of water.
  • Remember to reserve some of the aquafaba (the water in which the chickpeas were boiled).

To make Tahini

  • Take white sesame seeds and roast them for 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Let them cool down and then grind them in the dry grinder jar (the smallest one) of your mixer-grinder along with the olive oil.
  • Your Tahini paste is ready!

To make Hummus

  • Add in the tahini, boiled chickpeas, and aquafaba along with all the other ingredients in a grinder jar and make a smooth paste.
  • Taste to check and adjust the seasonings, if required.
  • Once you are happy with the taste, transfer it to a bowl and garnish with some olive oil, some boiled chickpeas, and a few leaves of fresh coriander. Sprinkle some red chili powder on top.
  • Your Hummus is absolutely ready, enjoy it with some falafel or some pita bread or just however you like!
