Hot Chocolate Bombs

Jump to Recipe

Hot Chocolate Bombs are the new thing viral on the internet! And the popularity is justified, I mean who wouldn’t love those little bombs of goodness. Basically, they are spheres made out of melted chocolate that when placed in a mug and poured hot milk onto, melt and release the marshmallows, sprinkles, or whatever surprise is hiding inside. They are so fun to make and turn out to be a great gifting option!

Here’s what you need:
  • 300 gm of chopped dark/white chocolate
  • 30 to 50 gm of drinking chocolate powder
  • Marshmallows – as needed
  • Sprinkles or other sugar decorations – optional

Special equipment: Sphere shaped silicone molds

How to make it:
  • You can make these bombs with any chocolate you like. I made them with dark chocolate. The first step is to melt the chocolate and let it sit till it has slightly cooled and thickened but not set.
  • Pour it in the molds and spread it all around in a thick layer.
  • Make sure that the entire area or cavity is well coated with a thick layer of the melted chocolate.
  • You can invert the mold and let the excess chocolate drip out.
  • Keep it in the fridge or a cool place to set. This should take about 10 minutes.
  • Then, carefully turn out the set chocolate half. They should come out very easily from these silicon molds and that is the reason I love using these molds!
  • Now we need to stick the two sphere halves together to make a complete sphere. For that, you need to heat a plate on a pan slightly and place the two halves open-side down on it for a couple of seconds.
  • Now fill one half with your desired goodies. I used chocolate powder along with small marshmallows. You can use small peppermints or cereal or pretty much anything you would like to have with your milk.
  • Then bring the two halves together so that they come together into one round sphere! Remember, perfection is NOT your goal here, this is just a fun recipe!
  • Now if you want you can decorate it and make it look even more pretty!
  • You can either pour hot milk over these bombs or drop these into hot milk: your choice! Either way, they are a promise to the perfect goody explosion!
