A while back, I posted a Hummus recipe (click to read) following which a lot of you guys requested me to post a recipe on Falafel too. So here it is!

Just like Hummus, Falafel is also a Middle Eastern dish and is a common meal in countries like Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Israel, etc. However, today Falafel has gained well-deserved popularity across the world and is hence as part of the world cuisine.

Here’s what you need:
falafel ingredients
falafel recipe
  • 2 cups of soaked and drained chickpeas or garbanzo beans (kabuli chane)
  • 1 cup of fresh green coriander
  • 8 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp of lemon juice
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Optional:

  • ½ cup of fresh parsley
  • Red Chilli powder
  • Cumin (Jeera) powder
How to make it:
  • Soak the chickpeas for 6 to 8 hours.
  • Then, completely strain the water before you proceed to the next step.
  • Add in all the ingredients to a blender or food processor.
  • Now, grind all the ingredients till you get a coarse paste. Do not add any additional water to this paste. If you feel that there is an absolute necessity to add water, do not add it more than 1 to 2 tbsp. If the mixture feels too moist, add a bit of Gram Flour.

  • Now, roll the mixture into round or oval shaped koftas.
  • Now, heat some oil in a pan and fry these falafel koftas till crisp and well cooked. If you want to make these without oil, you can also use an air fryer. I mostly use Philips Air Fryer (click to check out the product), which is easily available to buy on Amazon.
  • Our falafel is crisp and ready!
  • Enjoy it with loads of Hummus, Pita bread and fresh Salad.
