Tonight is Pizza night…. the kids are excited…. and can I tell you,
I’m equally excited!!!
In this post, I am going to share the recipe for Pizza from scratch, yes, that’s right! So you will learn how to make a pizza dough for your pizza base and your own pizza sauce at home!! Isn’t that exciting!!
So, a pizza has four elements:
The Toppings (of course toppings differ from person-to-person).
So I’m going to share the recipe for the base and the sauce. The cheese of course is Mozzerella. And as goes for the toppings, to each their own.
Now for the Pizza Base – What You Will Need: (this recipe will give you 4 10-inch pizzas rolled about 1 cm high)
Plain flour – 4 cups
Dry active yeast – 2 tsp
Sugar – 1 tsp
Salt – 1.5 tsp
Olive Oil – 1/4 cup
Water – 1 1/4 cups
How To Make It:
Place all the dry ingredients (flour, yeast, sugar, salt) in a large bowl. Heat the water to lukewarm. Make a well in the center and put in lukewarm water and oil.
Knead the dough. You are looking for a smooth firm dough, so if its too sticky, add some more flour, and if it feels too dry, add a little more water.
Once you are happy with your dough, grease the bowl with some olive oil and place the dough in it. Cover with a cling film or a moist cloth. Keep this in a warm place for at least an hour. Since the weather here is already cold, I heated my oven to a 100 degrees C and then kept the bowl with the dough inside the oven.
By the end of an hour, it should have roughly doubled in size.
So here the indents you see in the super fluffy and soft risen dough are an excited me poking my fingers into the pillowy dough.
Also notice the internal texture after the rise.
Gently knead this dough for a minute or two and then divide it into 2-3 portions depending on how big you want the pizzas to be. Cover and let them rest for another 30 minutes or so.
Now your pizza dough is ready to be rolled out and made into those delicious pizzas the kids have been waiting for!!!
So now for assembling the Pizza: First thing is to preheat the oven to 210 degrees C. These are the things you need –
Pizza dough, rolled into a size as per your liking
Pizza sauce (click here for the recipe)– 4 tablespoons for one 8-inch round (or more, its really a matter of your liking)
Mozzerella cheese – grated or broken into chunks
Other toppings – sliced mushrooms, olives, sliced baby corns, onion slices, basil leaves, capsicum strips or slices (these are what I used today, but go ahead and put on whatever’s your favorite!!!)
To assemble and finish:
Roll out the dough into a thickness of your liking. I like it pretty thin. Dollop and slather over the pizza sauce (click for recipe). Sprinkle on the mozzerella as geneourously or sparsly as you like. Finally put on all the toppings you want.
I love my pizza to be loaded so here you go….
Bake in the oven in the centre rack for 10-15 minutes at 210 degrees C.
And here it comes out…. hot and yum…..
Giving you a glimple of the inside of the crust….
Now again, if you are like me, you want that slice to be extra loaded with all the super yummy toppings, beautiful fresh veggies in this case, so here goes…. The picture below shows my portion of the pizza, the super loaded one!!!
So now its your turn to tell me how you made that Pizza Sauce (my recipe is here) and what you used to top your pizza!!
Grab your prettiest apron and a whisk, put on your favorite song and start creating the magic!! Do share your experience of this post and recipe and your views and opinions! I would love to hear them!!
